Did you Know? There are over fifty verified haunted places in Monmouth County. Many near our shore communities. One of the best know is the Twin lights Lighthouse. Located two hundred feet above the Atlantic Ocean in Highlands, this has the cite of numerous reports of ghostly activity.
One involved a woman named Mary. Some have even called her Mad Mary. Reports of seeing the former keepers wife roaming the North tower have been known for many years. Some claim she has pushed people down the curved staircase causing their deaths.
Other claim that Mary was so overwhelmed with grief when he husband ,Thomas, died that she threw herself off the top of the north Tower. But remains to this day haunting the very tower from which she fell.
One other claim is that despite Mary’s loyalty to her husband she was repeatedly pursued by an amorous staff member. In an effort to escape his advances she ran up the North tower with the man close behind. It is reported her body was found on the ground beneath the North tower.
Now who is to say what truly befell the young widow. The lighthouse is a wonderful place to visit. But if you visit, keep an eye out for her as you ascend the north Tower.
