Ghostly Categories 3 Residual Ghosts
One of the most common paranormal events reported is that of the residual ghost. This spirit lives out the last few hours of its life, or one specific period, over and over, endlessly. It is like a giant picture loop that repeats itself without end.
This spirt does not seem to be intelligent or conscious, nor do they ever alter their pattern. Sometimes the sightings are contemporary or may be time slips where the environment is witnessed in the era of apparition. A 17th century apparition will appear in period clothes, display appropriate mannerism for that period, in constant repetition. Sometimes the haunting is traumatic, other times it seems to be a meaningful moment from their life.
Closely related are mental imprints. These residuals tend to focus on one specific event, an accident, murder, execution. They are accompanied by noises such as moans, cries, footsteps, wails, creeks, and slamming of doors. They likely occur on specific dates and may be associated with specific kinds of weather. They are also associated with a specific historic era, a period of famine, drought, or depression. As with other residuals they do not interact with the living, and do not seem to possess consciousness. These imprints tend to fade away over time.
Another well-known kind of residual is known as the tradition ghost. This is an earthbound spirit that remains in one precise location. It can be a building, house. anywhere that was important to the individual during life. Many are historic places, battlegrounds, public places, and private homes. They are often recognized as historic figures, or sometimes family members. They make no attempt to interact with the living. They appear solid, walk and talk naturally, and are dressed in period attire. This is the sort of ghost seen to walk thru walls!
